Training at K-10 Dog Training in Mexico NY uses science-based, positive reinforcement methodologies. Training is offered for dogs of all ages and temperaments. We offer one-on-one classes for those who want individual instruction. We also have small group classes for those who prefer that format.

Hi, I’m Kathy Shumway Lawton, owner of K-10 Dog Training in Mexico, NY. Dogs have been a lifelong passion for me, starting with my childhood companions Fritz, Corky, Punch, and Judy. Over the years, I’ve fostered and adopted an eclectic canine family, each with their own personality and story, from therapy dogs to retired hunting companions.
My professional dog training journey began in 2007 and includes certifications from the Karen Pryor Academy, CPDT-KA, and a Service Dog Coach certification. I specialize in positive, science-based methods and focus on everything from obedience training to behavior modification and aggression issues.
When I’m not teaching, I’m learning—whether it’s refining my clicker training skills or diving into canine scent work with my dog Strut or teaching Bella new tricks. My mission is to help dogs and their owners build stronger bonds through effective, compassionate training.
